When we think of Cherrapunji, the first thing that comes to mind is rain, rain, and more rain.
This high-altitude town in Meghalaya, India’s northeastern state, is famous for its unique living root bridges.
The area receives 11777 mm of rain per year, making it one of the wettest places on the planet.
Cherrapunji attractions include magical wonderland surrounded by verdant gorges, hills, waterfalls, caves, and forests.
Take tour of Cherrapunji, the world’s second-wettest place, and immerse yourself in its unrivaled scenic beauty.
The locals call it Sohra, but the rest of the world knows it as Cherrapunjee or Cherrapunji.
Cherrapunjee, once the wettest place on Earth, is now the second rainiest after Mawsynram.
Every year, Cherrapunjee receives nearly 12 of rain.
Though the title of Most Rainiest Place on Earth has shifted from Chherrapunji to Mawsynram (about 16 kilometres from Cherrapunji), Cherrapunjee continues to reign supreme in terms of tourist attractions and infrastructure.
Cherrapunji attracts large number of tourists due to its abundant natural beauty, which includes variety of valleys and waterfalls, caves and canyons, evergreen misty landscapes, and heavy rains.
Cherrapunjee is located in the East Khasi District of Meghalaya, approximately 60 kilometers from Shillong.

Guwahati isn't known as the "Gateway to the North East" for nothing!

Unless you are already in Sikkim or Kolkata, flying is the quickest and most comfortable option.

There are daily direct flights from New Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata to Guwahati.

If you are travelling internationally (for example, from the United Kingdom), you will stop at Delhi before continuing your journey.

A direct train from Varanasi to Guwahati is available, although it will take around 30 hours.

Guwahati tourist attractions ?

Kamakhya Temple
Many people think that a journey to Guwahati isn't complete unless they see the Kamakhya temple.

Situated at 562 feet above sea level on Nilachal, it exudes mystique as you weave your way up to visit.

Enjoy a sunset sail on the Brahmaputra
There are several boats to choose from for a journey on the Brahmaputra, but Alfresco Grand is the most professional and award-winning cruise business.

You'll have your own table and a great location to view the sunset.

There are other cruise choices available, so if you want to treat yourself to a buffet supper with a dance show, that is also an option.

Visit Fancy Bazaar
There are several shopping venues across the city, but Fancy Bazaar has to be one of the most hectic and enjoyable.

Guwahati's Best Dish: Assamese Thali!

An Assamese Thali, like a Kolkata Thali, generally contains grilled fish or fish curry as a 'Non-veg' option.

If you're not acquainted with a Thali, it's essentially a fixed meal menu in India.

You'll get a heaping amount of rice in the centre of your plate, with little items on the sides. Chutney, curry, dahl, vegetables, and occasionally dessert items will be served.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Cherrapunji?

Cherrapunji is possibly India's sole location with only one season: the monsoon. Rain ranges in intensity from heavy to medium to light, although no month goes by without rain. July had the most rain, averaging 16.4 inches. Because it rains largely at night, it has little impact on daily life.
