Meghalaya is a lovely hilly state in northeast India. The name “Abode of Clouds” is derived from the Greek phrase “Abode of Clouds”. It is well- known for its dense forests and heavy rainfall. The majority of the state’s population is tribal – Khasis, Garos, and Jaintias. Meghalaya is divided into three major hills: the Khasi Hills, the Garo Hills, and the Jaintia Hills.
Shillong has several green hills and waterfalls, as well as a beautiful climate and environment. Because of the heavy rains and frequent earthquakes, the houses are built in a distinct Assamese style, with sloping roofs and multiple windows. Visitors will enjoy the beautiful scenery provided by wet algae roads and foggy cities.
Our agent will assist you at the airport or railroad station. Continue to Shillong, popularly nicknamed "Scotland of the East." See the magnificent Umium Lake (Barapani). Water sports are available here (optional). After you arrive in Shillong, check into your accommodation. In the evening, you can go to the Police Bazaar, the largest local market. Stay in Shillong for the night.
Following breakfast, go to Mawlynnong Village, India's cleanest village. This charming and colorful community is well known for its cleanliness. It is 90 kilometers from Shillong and, in addition to the charming village, has numerous unique sites such as the Living Root Bridge and another strange natural occurrence of a boulder balancing on another rock. Visit Dawki, which is located near the Indo-Bangladesh border. The Umgnot River's crystal-clear waters are ideal for boating. Go to Cherrapunjee. Stay at Cherrapunji for the night.
Get up early today to enjoy the captivating mornings of Cherrapunji, the world's wettest area. Eco Park, Dainthlen Waterfall, Nohkalikai Falls, Nohsngithiang Falls (Seven Sisters Falls), Mawsmai Cave, and Thangkharang Park are also worth seeing. Return to Shillong in the evening. For stunning vistas, go to Elephanta Falls and Shillong Peak. Shillong is where you'll spend the night.
Today, after breakfast, check out and drive to Guwahati. If time allows, visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Traditions, Ward's Lake, where you can go boating, the Cathedral Catholic Church, and Lady Hydari Park in Shillong. Continue to Guwahati and, after an unforgettable experience, head to the airport or train station to begin your next adventure.
Meghalaya is a state in northeastern India. Meghalaya was formed from Assam and shares western and southern borders with Assam and Bangladesh.
Meghalaya is perhaps one of the safest states we've visited. The folks are nice and always willing to assist you.
Meghalaya is also one of the most secure areas for women to visit. Crimes against women are uncommon in this matrilineal society. I have traveled alone in Meghalaya to isolated locations such as Tura without worry. Meghalaya is another place where I feel at ease when travelling alone.
Guwahati, like the other northeast states, serves as Meghalaya's entrance point. Shillong is Meghalaya's most significant capital city. Your vacation to Meghalaya will most likely begin in Shillong.
Shillong has a domestic airport, with flights from Kolkata, Guwahati, and New Delhi. Therefore, the easiest method to enter Meghalaya is to fly to Guwahati and then to Shillong.
Guwahati is the closest railway station. Paltan Bazaar, right outside the Guwahati Train Station, has shared jeeps and taxis. Shared jeeps and cabs are also available from Khanapara in Guwahati. Buses may also be found outside the train station at the ASTC Bus Stop. Frequent buses operate from ISBT, Beltola in Guwahati.
There are also helicopter flights available from Guwahati to Shillong. Nonetheless, we recommend using the road. Shillong is only 100 kilometers from Guwahati, and the roads are decent and picturesque as they wind uphill through thick foliage.
Shillong can be your first stop on your vacation to Meghalaya. You may go to several locations from Shillong.
From the Police Bazaar Taxi Stand, you may book a car to drive to various destinations in Meghalaya.
If you prefer to go in a group, the Sumos are accessible at the Bara Bazaar Sumo Stand near duh. Shared Sumos to additional places such as Dawki, Kongthong, and Nongstoin is also available.
The quantity of shared jeeps in remote areas is relatively low. Hence, if you wish to go about Meghalaya in a shared car, plan ahead of time and learn about the vehicle times.
You may tour Meghalaya on a bike, just as we did, and enjoy the ride. The main roads in Meghalaya are fairly nice, and riding is quite fun. Shillong has several bike rentals where you may rent scooters and motorbikes.
Rental businesses often need a deposit amount based on your ride, as well as an original copy of one of your identification documents. When you return the bike, they will return the ID. In addition, they include one helmet with the bike. You can also request another helmet for a little fee.
The daily charge for scooty or Bike is INR 600-800. (without petrol)
It costs INR 1000-1200 per day to rent a bike.
The climate of Meghalaya is tropical. The winter months of October to March are ideal for a visit. But, if you want to experience the waterfalls in their full grandeur, go between August and the beginning of October, which is the end of the rainy season.
Meghalaya is one of those places in India that is stunning in all seasons. While the monsoon season is our favorite time to visit, the other seasons are as beautiful. When you want to go on a Meghalaya vacation is determined by what you want to do.
There are several uncharted and unusual locations.
