Stone walls surround the hilltop villages. The morung, or meeting house, serves as a boy’s dormitory, stores weapons, and once displayed the spoils of war, i.e. enemy heads. The massive sacred drum, which stands by each morung, is carved from a tree trunk in the shape of a buffalo head.
