Cosmopolitan Colombo, the entrance to Sri Lanka's wonders, has a rich colonial background and a melting pot of races, religions, and civilizations. It is a city of contrasts, with an unusual mix of gleaming hotels and posh office buildings next to gorgeous red-tiled colonial-era structures.
Sri Lanka is well-known for its rich Buddhist culture and other religions. Sri Lanka, as a religious country, has several places of religious and historic significance that draw tourists from all over the world.
We replied without hesitation, "absolutely, yes it is." There is no doubt in our minds that Sri Lanka is one of the safest destinations in Asia, if not the globe, to visit. While the economic and political crises are far from resolved, they will no longer have any effect on passengers.

Sigiriya was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. Sigiriya is famed for its palace ruins on atop a gigantic 200-meter-high rock, surrounded by the remnants of a vast network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures. The rock itself is a lava plug from a long-since-extinct volcano.
Sri Lanka's 'Lion Fortress' was consumed by the jungle - Sri Lanka's Sigiriya stronghold, built in the fifth century, drew the attention of British archaeologists in the 1800s, who were awestruck by its leonine rock art and magnificent murals.
Climbing Sigiriya rock is not difficult. It is also doable for people with average fitness levels, such as myself. There are various breaks in between, making the entire climb easier than it appears.
Kitulgala's natural features are the most diverse, ranging from the 12,000-year-old bones of the prehistoric Balangoda Man (Homosapiens Balangodensis) unearthed in the Belilena Caves to the neighbouring scenic Aberdeen Falls.
This scenic village is located around 95 kilometres outside of Colombo in Sri Lanka's famous hill region and is surrounded by wooded hills and has been cleft into two half by the Kelani River. Kitulgala receives its name from the Kitul palm tree, which grows in dense groves throughout the area.
Kitulgala is best known for being the centre of spectacular water sport activities ranging from white water rafting to abseiling and waterfall exploration. Kitulgala is about 83 kilometres from Colombo International Airport and is an excellent stopover on your way to see Sri Lanka's hilly regions.
