Mamallapuram, also known as Mahabalipuram, is a town in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu located between the Bay of Bengal and the Great Salt Lake. It is famous for the temples and monuments built by the Pallava dynasty between the seventh and eighth centuries. The seafront Shore Temple is made up of three ornate granite shrines. Krishna’s Butter Ball is a massive boulder balanced on a small hill near the stone temple of Ganesha Ratha.
