Overview

Kanchipuram, also known as Kanchi, is an ancient city in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. It is a Hindu pilgrimage site with many temples. The Kailasanathar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and built in the eighth century, is a sprawling complex with intricate sandstone carvings. The Ulagalanda Perumal Temple houses a massive statue of Lord Vishnu. A sacred mango tree is thought to grow in the courtyard of the Ekambareswarar Temple.
