Overview

Jaisalmer is a former mediaeval trading centre and princely state in Rajasthan, India, in the heart of the Thar Desert. It is known as the “Golden City” because of its yellow sandstone architecture. Jaisalmer Fort, a sprawling hilltop citadel buttressed by 99 bastions, dominates the skyline. The ornate Maharaja’s Palace and intricately carved Jain temples are hidden behind its massive walls.
