Amritsar is a city in the Indian state of Punjab, 28 kilometres from the Pakistani border. The gilded Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), located in the heart of its walled old town, is the holiest gurdwara (religious complex) of the Sikh religion. It is located at the end of a causeway, surrounded by the holy Amrit Sarovar tank (lake), where pilgrims bathe.
