Overview

Kannur is a coastal city in Kerala, India’s southernmost state. It was once a prosperous trading port. Enduring monuments such as the 16th-century St. Angelo Fort, which was once occupied by European colonial forces, demonstrate the city’s importance in the spice trade. The Arakkal Museum, housed in a former palace, focuses on Kerala’s one Muslim royal family. Payyambalam Beach’s palm-fringed sands run along Kannur’s western shore.
