Alappuzha (or Alleppey) is a city in the Indian state of Kerala on the Laccadive Sea. The rustic Kerala backwaters, a network of tranquil canals and lagoons, are best known for houseboat cruises. The Alappuzha Lighthouse, built in the nineteenth century, can be found on Alappuzha Beach. The Mullakkal Temple in the city has a traditional design. The snake boat races on Punnamada Lake are a well-known annual event.
