Overview

From 1399 to 1947, Mysore (or Mysuru) was the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore in India’s southwestern Karnataka state. The opulent Mysore Palace, seat of the former ruling Wodeyar dynasty, is located in the heart of the city. The palace is a fusion of Hindu, Islamic, Gothic, and Rajput styles. Mysore also has the centuries-old Devaraja Market, which sells spices, silk, and sandalwood.
