Overview

Madikeri is a southern Indian hill town. It is known for the Raja’s Seat, a simple monument overlooking forests and rice paddies that is framed by the Western Ghats mountain range. The entrance to the 17th-century Madikeri Fort is guarded by two stone elephants. The domed Omkareshwar Temple, located nearby, is dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. Abbey Falls, which cascades to the northwest, is surrounded by spice plantations.
