Hampi is a historic village in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is dotted with numerous ruined Vijayanagara Empire temple complexes. The 7th-century Hindu Virupaksha Temple is located on the south bank of the River Tungabhadra, near the revitalised Hampi Bazaar. In front of the massive Vittala Temple site is a carved stone chariot. Daroji Bear Sanctuary, southeast of Hampi, is home to the Indian sloth bear.
