Madhya Pradesh, a large state in central India, has preserved landmarks from various periods in Indian history. Begun in the 10th century, Khajuraho’s Hindu and Jain temples are famous for their carvings of erotic scenes, most notably Kandariya Mahadeva, a temple with over 800 sculptures. Guided safaris are available in the eastern Bandhavgarh and Kanha national parks, which are well-known Bengal tiger sanctuaries.
