Cherrapunji has it all, from fluffy clouds painting the blue sky to cascading waterfalls. Sohra, also known as Cherrapunji, is located 55 kilometres from Shillong at a height of 1300 metres. Cherrapunji is a must-see for any visitor to Meghalaya. It is Khasi’s main hub. Cherrapunji is a city that is like a vibrant painting that captivates tourists and travellers. It is in the heart of Meghalaya and has an untouched, unblemished, and unaltered beauty.

Cherrapunji is the wettest place on the planet, with a record rainfall of 104 centimetres. However, that record was broken by Mawsynram, a village on the southern slopes of the Khasi hills near Cherrapunji, with a rainfall of 2300 centimetres. Cherrapunji is the place to be if you want to experience the true beauty of nature.
The double-decker living root bridge is a work of art created by the local Khasi people through bio-engineering. It is also an excellent trekking location. It also offers a breathtaking view of Bangladesh’s plains.

Assam is bounded to the north by Bhutan and to the east by Arunachal Pradesh. Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram lie to the south. Meghalaya is to the southwest, and Bengal and Bangladesh are to the west. Assam is a state of breathtaking scenic beauty, rare flora and fauna, lofty green hills, vast rolling plains, mighty waterways, and a land of fairs and festivals. With tea gardens and endless stretches of paddy fields interspersed with groves of coconut, areca nut, and banana trees, is one of the largest and most accessible states in India’s North East. It is a land that can enchant you with its mythology and magic.

Things to keep in mind before selecting a destination

When a traveler's mind desires to visit the beaches, mountains, or a forest, there is nothing to say. However, understanding how to plan a trip successfully requires selecting the appropriate destination based on the season.

Find out when is the best time to visit each destination. The best time to visit beaches and mountains is usually different. When choosing a destination, keep the cost in mind. Some locations are more enjoyable to visit on a luxury budget than others. Going to a luxury destination during the shoulder season (a few weeks before or after the official 'busy season') can result in some good hotel and flight discounts.

People should prioritise traveller safety before embarking on their journey (especially solo female travelers).

Accessibility, or lack thereof, is another factor that can influence whether or not a person chooses to visit a particular location. To support the tourist influx, popular destinations generally have a large number of daily flights, trains, and good highway infrastructure.

Guwahati isn't known as the "Gateway to the North East" for nothing!

Unless you are already in Sikkim or Kolkata, flying is the quickest and most comfortable option.

There are daily direct flights from New Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata to Guwahati.

If you are travelling internationally (for example, from the United Kingdom), you will stop at Delhi before continuing your journey.

    Guwahati tourist attractions ?
    Kamakhya Temple
Many people think that a journey to Guwahati isn't complete unless they see the Kamakhya temple.

Situated at 562 feet above sea level on Nilachal, it exudes mystique as you weave your way up to visit.

Enjoy a sunset sail on the Brahmaputra
There are several boats to choose from for a journey on the Brahmaputra, but Alfresco Grand is the most professional and award-winning cruise business.

You'll have your own table and a great location to view the sunset.

There are other cruise choices available, so if you want to treat yourself to a buffet supper with a dance show, that is also an option.

    Visit Fancy Bazaar
There are several shopping venues across the city, but Fancy Bazaar has to be one of the most hectic and enjoyable.

    Guwahati's Best Dish: Assamese Thali!
An Assamese Thali, like a Kolkata Thali, generally contains grilled fish or fish curry as a 'Non-veg' option.

If you're not acquainted with a Thali, it's essentially a fixed meal menu in India.

You'll get a heaping amount of rice in the centre of your plate, with little items on the sides. Chutney, curry, dahl, vegetables, and occasionally dessert items will be served.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Cherrapunji?
Cherrapunji is possibly India's sole location with only one season: the monsoon. Rain ranges in intensity from heavy to medium to light, although no month goes by without rain. July had the most rain, averaging 16.4 inches. Because it rains largely at night, it has little impact on daily life.
